Scottish Blackface
Thrifty sheep for the small farm
“If a man cannot be happy on a little farm in Wisconsin, then he hasn’t the makings of happiness in his soul.”
—Nick Engelbert, farmer and folk artist of Hollandale, WI
We raise bell-brow style Scottish Blackface on 200 acres of Southwestern Wisconsin’s driftless region.
An ancient breed
Scottish Blackface are a primitive breed of sheep that are common in Scotland but quite rare in North America. Our sheep retain the older Scottish style with mottling on their faces, a roman nose, and lower-set horns. They grow out a long fleece and produce a lean carcass. Scottish Blackface are a low maintenance breed that can thrive on pasture alone —a true low-input sheep for the busy shepherd.
High quality—unique genetics
Our flock of sheep is OPP negative and bred for parasite resistance and a wide horn set, ensuring few problems in their descendants. We are the sole American importers for three genetic lines from the Woolfords and Calla flocks in Scotland.
